The First Field Trip

Today I’d like to share with you about my first field trip organized by UIU on Sep 9th. Before that, I’m going to tell you a story about one festival celebrated in China first-The Double Ninth Festival, it is in lunar calendar the ninth day of the ninth month which is a traditional Chinese festival, it is also called” Chung Yeung Festival”, on this day, it is customary to climb a high mountain and wear the Zhuyu plant. We happened to visit the Pikes Peak to be the top of the mountain on that day which is solar calendar though. Its an interesting coincidence!At Pikes Peak, we can see the beautiful line of the Mississippi River rolling through Iowa and Wisconsin,what impressive landscapes, we couldn’t help taking photos at this great spot, everyone was enjoying. You can see smiles on our faces. But where was Irina? Yes, she was the photographer, thank Irina ^^

Next stop, we moved towards to the local famous rich people’s mansion, the magnificent Victorian style building-Villa Louis, from Dousman Family in the middle 1840s, at the moment we entered in the mansion, you will understand what a world of upper-class family’s rich life was like, almost everything has been kept well, exquisite and splendid.

We stayed for about an hour then we came out of the mansion, it has been located in a very beautiful greenery world, I was attracted by the sceneries, and can’t stop taking the sceneries with my camera.

 

Finally, I feel elated about our trip, I think it was a good one, a very nice weather, and I also look forward to the next field trip!

Volunteering in Watermelon Day

The Watermelon Days in Fayette, Sep. 11-13  were just finished, this annual festival brought the whole town people to the main street to celebrate the days.  They organized a beautiful stage, by performing some shows and lotteries stuff, there were many lucky people received prizes like T-shirt and kitchen stuff. I talked with a local lady who was lucky to get the prize, she smiled and said the prize is joy and lucky that means this year would be a good harvest.

As a new student in UIU, I first time joined this festival, and I had no hesitate to participate in volunteering, my job was to sell Buttons & Raffle Tickets,each button sold1 dollar, 6 for 5 dollars, and the so-called Raffle Ticket is 10 dollars each and means you could have a chance to get 1000 dollars cash, is what we call -lucky lottery. People love this!  ^^

There were all kinds of games, like cornhole and building blocks, adults were playing with families and friends, they laughed and had lots of fun. It’s a good time to have family and friends reunion.

The most happy part should be the children’s game area, it was a big amusement part in the festival, kids lined up to play their favorite games, I am sure they will know some new friends in this big day. Such a happy day!

Finally, the Watermelon Days ended with wonderful fireworks, you always have all kinds of imagination by watching colorful fireworks in the sky, to me, I think of my family and friends in far China. I wish all them happy and healthy.

My Hometown

My hometown -Da Lian is a beautiful coastal city, which is located in the northeast of China. Dalian is a wonderful place to live, I’d like to share with you my hometown.

First, Dalian has long beautiful coastline called Seashore Way. People like to walk or run along the seashore way, you may find people doing exercises or camping here, even drive your family in the holiday, watching the great ocean sceneries.

Second, Dalian is the best place for people who love delicious food, it is famous for all kinds of seafood, people from all over the world enjoy Dalian’s seafood, like crab, lobster, sea cucumber and sea snail etc. Dalian has the biggest sea cucumber factory supplying the first class products to the world, which brand named Bang Chui Island.

Third, Dalian is famous for its beautiful city sceneries, which has 6 big theme parks, one of which is the number one biggest square in Asia-Xing Hai Square, shopping malls, as the traffic center, Dalian plays an important role in smoothing the domestic and world’s developing economy and culture. I’m very honored to say that Dalian is the city to own Chinese ornamental column to memorize the return of Hong Kong to China.

Finally, I would like to say that no matter where we go, the local people always the central to draw our interest and make us wanna come again, Dalian has interesting culture to attract more and more visitors from the whole world, such as Dalian is the only city in China to have women horseback police, Dalian set up its own football club in 1983-The Dalian Shi De that has won 8 times in the big football competitions, Dalian people’s generous hospitable friend welcome people from all over the world to Dalian.
